For individuals currently undertaking a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, Hestia offers diverse placements every year across a variety of our services. Placements could include supporting our teams in areas such as domestic abuse, modern slavery and criminal justice to empower those we support to find safety, hope and purpose.

What’s involved in a Hestia placement?  

• Gain valuable direct experience through practical learning opportunities in a Hestia service – this could include supporting families escaping domestic abuse, survivors of modern slavery, or people who have experienced mental health crisis.  
• Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and meet professional standards 
• Learn from other professionals in integrated settings 
• Regular one-to-one supervision with your Social Work Qualified Practice Educator and your on-site supervisor
• Access to peer support through monthly group supervision
• Onsite support and fortnightly supervision from your work-based supervisor  
• Access to advice and resources from our Social Work team, IT team and comprehensive range of policies and procedures.  
• Our placements are flexible in terms of shift patterns, location and interest, however it is worth noting that you may not get your first choice.

Do you have statutory placements?  

Yes, we have a number of settings delivering delegated statutory functions on behalf of local and central government, such as domestic abuse services and placements in our Modern Slavery Response Team.  

Can I do my final year placement with Hestia?  

Yes, we offer 100-day placements as well as shorter 70-day placements for students at different stages of their degree.  

Where are your placements based?  

Our services are located all over London and surrounding areas, including some services in Kent and Berkshire. Our Placements team do their best to find you a setting that meets your needs. It is not always possible, however, to provide placements in a student’s first choice location.  

Travel expenses will be covered within the placement.
