What is the Social Work Apprenticeship?

Hestia offers fully-funded places for Hestia colleagues on The Open University’s Social Work Apprenticeship - BA (Hons).

This three-year course is approved by Social Work England, and successful completion entitles graduates to apply for registration as a social worker.

Through completion of this apprenticeship, learners will gain:

• Practice experience and evidence of assessed competency in the workplace

• New skills and knowledge preparing them to take on more demanding roles within social care delivery 

• A professionally qualifying degree in social work

How does the apprenticeship fit around my current role?

This three-year programme offers Hestia colleagues the opportunity to continue their current role on a part-time basis (80%) with their remaining time (20%) protected for learning and development. 

Apprentices will also undertake three placements during the programme, two of which will be at different Hestia services to the one that they are employed at. 

During the time you are undertaking the apprenticeship you will be considered a student and this will be reflected in your pay.

What are the eligibility criteria? 

This opportunity is open to all Hestia colleagues in permanent roles who are working directly with service users and have a case load. 

Applicants for the apprenticeship also need to have a minimum of Level 2 Maths and English (or equivalent).
