Wandsworth’s Mental Health Recovery & Rehabilitation service celebrated one year of being delivered by Hestia to provide accommodation-based support to local residents with mental health conditions in the London borough of Wandsworth. 

The service operates with collaboration at its heart, working directly with the 60 adults living in the service to promote independence and wellbeing with an ultimate focus on recovery. The celebratory event highlighted the success of delivering the service with this approach.

Through this manner, all service users are in control of their recovery and staff support individuals at the pace that suits the user.  

The event invited local commissioners and stakeholders to meet with service users to hear about their recovery whilst celebrating their achievements. An art exhibition also featured with services users submitting entries to be displayed with prizes awarded.

Peter Khwaja, Commissioner for the Borough of Wandsworth, said: 

“I am pleased to have worked with Hestia positively for many years now on a number of projects across a range of service groups. This is a high profile and important service for Wandsworth and we are glad to have Hestia as the provider. They provided the highest quality contract plan and work with the Council in a true partnership run on honesty and openness. We look forward to working with Hestia to continue delivering this excellent service to the benefit of all service users.”

Nicolas, a local resident from the service, said:

“It’s an honour and a privilege to accept this award. Thank you so much to Hestia and all the other services users who have helped me to get to where I am today.” 

Other attendees included Wandsworth Commissioning Officer Sharon Shamedje, Shirley Majorohand Lucy Nyaga-Gitari from Wandsworth Council’s Adult Social Care team, police officers from Metropolitan Police Service Bedford and John Morrill, Project Lead of Voicing Views, a project dedicated to ensure effective delivery of mental health services in the borough.
