Are you interested in developing your mentoring skills?

Developing Futures, our e-mentorship programme, may be perfect for you. It is designed to help young Londoners from ethnically diverse backgrounds that have experienced mental health challenges. The programme aims to help them develop a growth mindset, self-efficacy, and social capital through the support of a positive role model. These skills can prove invaluable in their journey to a successful career.

How does being a mentor work?

As a mentor, you will be matched with an 18-24 year old joining the programme. You will then conduct mentorship sessions with them over a 12-week period on Brightside's online youth mentoring platform.

To provide consistent support, you will be able to contact your mentee via text messages and video calls.

As a volunteer mentor, you will need to allocate a few hours per month to support 1-2 mentees.

What you'll gain as a mentor

  • Training: in mental health awareness, safeguarding, and mentoring to ensure you have the knowledge and tools to provide the best support, both in the mentoring relationship and in your workplace.
  • Personal and professional growth: Develop your communication, leadership, and empathy skills while supporting the growth of a young person in need.
  • Networking opportunities: Connect with other mentors from various sectors, fostering valuable relationships and learning from their experiences.
  • Fulfilment: Experience the satisfaction of making a meaningful difference in a young person's life and contributing to their future success.
