Mental health "safe spaces" in new locations across West London 2 April 2026 Hestia has launched three mental health recovery hubs, “Safe Spaces”, in new locations across West London. These give local people a safe place to go when they are struggling with their mental health. Hounslow Safe Space Safe Spaces are now provided by Hestia in Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Hounslow. These services are run on behalf of West London NHS Trust, demonstrating the Trust’s continued commitment to supporting people in mental health crisis. The Safe Spaces offer a free, safe and welcoming environment for adults (18+) who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or unable to cope. People can walk in without an appointment or referral and speak with trained staff who offer compassionate, non-judgemental support, and help to connect people with the right local services. Open in the evenings, weekends and bank holidays, the Safe Spaces provide vital support at times when many other services are often closed. The Safe Spaces aim to equip people with the skills they need to reduce their immediate distress. Visitors will receive: A safe, welcoming space and a listening ear One-to-one support to create bespoke support plans Support providing advice, information and connecting with local services and community support A hot drink and a snack These Safe Spaces provide a community-based crisis alternative to emergency departments, helping people access support earlier and preventing mental health crises from escalating. Hestia has delivered these services, known locally as ‘Coves’, since 2020. In the last year, we supported almost 5,000 local residents who were struggling with their mental health. We're now the largest provider of community-based mental health crisis alternatives in London, delivering 13 recovery hubs reaching 17 boroughs. These services support thousands of Londoners experiencing mental health crises. Patrick Ryan, Chief Executive of Hestia, said: “We’re delighted to be opening three mental health Safe Spaces in new locations across West London, and to have been trusted to continue delivering recovery hubs across Central and North West London. These services make us the largest provider of community-based mental health crisis alternatives in London. When someone is struggling with their mental health, having a safe place to go and someone to talk to can be critical. These hubs provide compassionate, community-based support outside normal working hours, helping people get the help they need at the time they most need it. We’re grateful to our partners at West London NHS Trust and Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) for their trust, collaboration and continued investment in mental health crisis alternatives. These services help people get the support they need earlier and prevent crises from escalating”. West London NHS Trust said: "We're delighted to be entering into this new partnership with Hestia to deliver our Safe Spaces for the coming years. Safe Spaces are a vital part of our menu of services available to individuals experiencing mental health distress, providing timely, compassionate support away from high‑pressure environments such as A&E. Along with our partners Central and North West London NHS Trust and the specialist expertise of Hestia, residents across North West London now have access to consistent services across the area, ensuring no matter where someone seeks help, they receive the same high‑quality, person‑centred support." CNWL have said: "The Coves Service has supported thousands of local people over the last six years to access the help they need during a mental health crisis. We’re pleased to continue our partnership with them and welcome more residents into a safe space across London by joining with West London on this initiative. Anyone attending will be given a hot drink and see a trained support worker who works with them to reduce immediate worries and create a safety plan. It’s an important part to our community mental health services."
