Hi, my name is Ashleigh and I am an Everyone's Business Trainer at Hestia.

I joined in December 2023 - my first week was the Christmas party and everyone was so kind and welcoming. Bowling and karaoke is a different way to get to know your colleagues but I loved it.

I have been aware of Hestia for many years, but didn't really know much about the amazing work they do. However, it first properly came onto my radar when I was scrolling on LinkedIn and the Everyone's Business Trainer role popped up. I wasn't actively looking for a new job, but the advert and job description really caught my attention so I then started looking into Hestia and Everyone's Business to see if they aligned with my career goals and values and they did.

Everyone's Business offers a whole range of training on domestic abuse (DA) and sexual violence (SV) to employers and their staff...I love delivering and creating a safe space for delegates to explore their thoughts and feelings on the subject matter.

My day-to-day consists of meeting with organisations, identifying their need and creating bespoke training proposals and delivering training. Everyone's Business offers a whole range of training on domestic abuse (DA) and sexual violence (SV) to employers and their staff, so generally there will be a training delivery. I love delivering and creating a safe space for delegates to explore their thoughts and feelings on the subject matter. Training can also be exhausting as you are talking about some really emotive subjects for hours and the adrenaline has been pumping so I always try to get up from my desk when I have finished and get outside, even if it is for five minutes.

The DA landscape changes all the time and as a trainer it is really important I keep up-to-date with those changes. I spend time each day looking at resources and any updates (news, newsletters, podcasts, reports, tv programmes).

We can go into an organisation and have staff who have little to no knowledge and being able to say we have upskilled staff and enabled disclosures fills me with pride.

The best part of my job is that I get to make a difference by raising awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence. We can go into an organisation and have staff who have little to no knowledge and being able to say we have upskilled staff and enabled disclosures fills me with pride.

Some of the more challenging parts of my job and it can be tempting to look for quick solutions, however, when we are looking at an organisation that doesn't have a DA policy in place we know that supporting them to have a rounded and embedded response will take time. We have to remember that it is okay. I have post-it note stuck to my monitor that says "Let's do it right, rather than do it quickly."

Since starting at Hestia I have been given so many opportunities and have tried to take up as many as possible as I love progressing my personal learning and development and it is also important whilst working in a trainer role.

During my time at Hestia one particular highlight of mine is when I attended the United Nations Women's Event in March, which presented a report on the FTSE 100 and how they can take steps to tackling domestic abuse. The whole morning was inspirational with talks from Nicole Jacobs the domestic abuse commissioner and the report findings were so interesting to listen to.

Since starting at Hestia I have been given so many opportunities and have tried to take up as many as possible as I love progressing my personal learning and development and it is also important whilst working in a trainer role. I am now a trained mental health first aider, something I am really passionate about.
