We were proud to welcome Sarah Jones, MP for Croydon West, to our domestic abuse refuge in Croydon – a safe, supported accommodation for single women or mothers with their children escaping domestic abuse.

Last year, Hestia supported over 3,800 people to recover from the trauma of domestic abuse. We currently provide 26 refuges across eight London boroughs, in addition to a range of community-based support and prevention initiatives — including the charity’s ‘Safe Spaces’ within high street pharmacies and banks.

In Croydon, Hestia has been providing refuge services for over 10 years. Our three local refuges offer comprehensive, trauma-informed support, including one-to-one sessions with key workers and guidance on domestic abuse. Residents also benefit from support groups and social activities, housing advice, financial and debt management, health, legal advice, and education. A dedicated Children and Family Worker supports families, helping them recover and rebuild their lives together.

During her visit, Sarah toured the refuge, spoke with staff and residents, and joined activities including a coffee morning and an art session with the children.

Sarah Jones, MP for Croydon West commented:

“Visiting Hestia’s refuge in Croydon was a privilege. I saw first-hand the vital work being done to support women and children escaping domestic abuse. My government is committed to halving violence against women and girls in a generation and such refuges are a part of that scheme. I’m proud that Croydon is home to such an essential and compassionate service.”
