New mental health service launches in Bromley New mental health service launches in Bromley A new service providing adults with mental health support, delivered by London charity Hestia, has launched today, 1st October, in the borough of Bromley. The Bromley Mental Health Flexible Support Service (BMHFSS) provides tailored support to adults with mental health needs in their own homes, helping them to develop skills for everyday living and assisting them with practical tasks as they recover. Provided in collaboration with Bromley’s existing Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT), Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, and Bromley’s Local Authority Commissioners, the service will work to support independence and resettlement into the community for those with mental health needs, moving them on from reliance on hospital and residential care. Personalised, community-based and floating support will be offered to individuals affected, in order to enable independent living. More than 1 in 10 people completing the GP patient survey in Bromley report feeling either moderately or extremely anxious or depressed, according to the 2016 Bromley Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. In addition, more than 2,500 in the borough are known by their GP to suffer from a serious mental illness. Will Walker, Area Manager for Hestia’s mental health services in Bromley, Merton, Lewisham, Kingston, and Wandsworth, said: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with established organisations in Bromley to achieve our shared commitment of supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of people experiencing ill mental health. We want to ensure people in the borough can improve their wellbeing and avoid recurrence of any mental ill health, and know that for this to happen, it’s important that people can access support in recovering the skills needed to communicate and engage with the world around them.” The service is available for adults with mental health needs between the ages of 18 and 64, as well as for people aged 65 and over with functioning mental ill health. The service joins Hestia’s existing presence in the borough, with Hestia currently providing outreach support for victims of modern slavery and both housing and community support for ex-offenders. Last year, Hestia supported almost 10,000 adults and children across London and the South East to recover from crisis, including victims of domestic abuse, those who have experienced modern slavery and individuals facing challenging mental health needs.
