Alessia's Story

Hi, my name is Alessia and I am the programme manager for Everyone’s Business at Hestia. I have been at Hestia for three and a half years.

Our amazing team supports employers to develop internal responses to domestic abuse and sexual violence. We know that for many people who experience domestic abuse, their place of work might be the only safe place they can access, and that this can save lives.

I have always been passionate about supporting people who have experienced domestic abuse, having worked with them throughout my career in a variety of frontline and managerial roles.

Everyone’s Business is innovative and aims to change the societal narrative that domestic abuse happens ‘behind closed doors’ by ensuring all employers know that they have a duty of care to support their staff, and that the training and support they put in place really does make a difference.

No two days are the same. My day can consist of delivering domestic abuse training to a Fortune 500 business in the morning, meeting with the IDVA & ISVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor & Independent Sexual Violence Adviser) team before lunch to look at how we can continue to offer the specialist domestic abuse and sexual violence advocate service to employers, delivering Domestic Abuse Champions training to a police force in the afternoon, and finally looking over our newest training package on sexual harassment in the workplace.

The thing I enjoy the most is the moment when I’m talking to an employer and they understand that they have a pivotal part to play in the solution to ending domestic abuse and sexual violence. That honestly makes me feel very excited because I know it means that more people will receive support than would have done the day before.
